One morning, I was mindlessly staring at the tiles on my kitchen wall, waiting for my coffee to brew, when I realised how lovely the grid of little square tiles actually was. I had never really noticed them before, and it occurred to me how much I overlook some of the things I surround myself with.
Everyday. Ordinary. is a serious of illustrations and patterns inspired from mundane objects around the house- my way of finding beauty in objects I usually take entirely for granted.
Some of these are available for sale as art prints on Art and Found
Everyday. Ordinary.
March- May 2015
Wires infuriate me, and I spend worrying amounts of time trying my hardest to conceal them. The illustration above, is my attempt to embrace the chaos that I honestly can't escape.
(And to try and find some beauty in wires that despite my love and care, stubbornly insist on curling, forming obnoxious little knots, and ultimately, fraying)
Benches, lovely as they look, are invariably fairly uncomfortable. I've found that cushions and a blanket (and a book and a cup of coffee) can significantly improve most furniture.
These little ceramic coffee filters I bought from Vietnam are fairly (ok, entirely) useless. I chose them over the sensible steel filters the lovely lady in Hanoi suggested I buy instead. Inspiring an illustration is pretty much the only purpose they've served in three years.
Cleaning calms me down, and I often find myself organising and tidying up when I feel a little stressed. It was natural, then, to draw a little ode to my faithful sprays, wiping cloths and soaps.
(Isn't it sweet how much bottles of Colin look like marching penguins?)
Suitcases, with the stories of where they've been, what they're filled with, and who they belong to, are high on my list of objects I love the most.
Weapons of Beauty. It always amazes me that I bother with the daily ritual of styling my hair. Vanity aside, trying to get them into a suitcase when I travel never really seems worth it.
